It never fails to surprise me when I read about the African Union.
It was established in 1993. I remember vividly. That was 27 years ago. By our dear African progression standard it is only 2 years and 7 months old!!!. Therefore, expecting ACTION for the benefit of the perennial poor AFRICAN PEOPLE is beyond normal expectation against the standard of other parts of the World.
The African Union was established in Addis Ababa, Ethiopoia by Emperor Haile Selasie with great fanfare. There were African notables and Arab Leaders who joined Africans not — needless to say — believing in Africa but watching for any avenue to influence the Africans towards Arab Agenda, which was —and still is — based strictly on RELIGION. Anyway, there were African notables and idealists who later on became absolute ruthless dictators in their own respective field of personal aggrandizement, without a single twitch of consciousness for their poor people Africans. Needless to say, Africa did not improve at all when it comes to the salvation of ordinary everlasting poor Black Africans.
As a corollary, let me digress a little bit. Africa was the HOPE and Glorious Image for Black People outside Africa — in particular, the BLACK PEOPLE of the United States of America. I was there when that euphoria died in America and when young Black African -American youngsters were totally disillusioned and exhibited HATRED towards Black Africans!!! The realization that their dreams upon the people of Mother Black Africa was vanished in thin air,. Instead, deep hatred set-in against the Black Africans, increasingly infesting the big cities of America. It was raison d’etre of Truman’s Point Four — NOT to help Africa, but to ‘acclimatize’ the White People of America towards BLACK RACE, for the benefit of America, standing the challenge of advanced World. IT WAS NOT FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE BLACK RACE but primarily for White America to get used to the REALTy of the Globe.
What is the result of the above?
Sad to say, Africa is still the backward Continent. Black Africans are still emigrating to pasture lands — even with discrimination — for the betterment of their Life. And Black Americans are better off by themselves for themselves and fighting to have a better Life in their own territory like anyone else in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, with confidence and pride of their share to build AMERICA for ALL. The eight-year Obama Presidency is a glaring testimony of confidence and hope for even much better SANE and CIVILIZED future for AMERICA, which influences the rest of the World.
And ONE DAY, even the African Union will rise up to be productive enough to establish and lead responsible organization for the dignity and benefit of the AFRICAN PEOPLE. Hopefully, the African Union would be honest enough to admit its 27-years of failure and to come to the rescue of the African People. AMEN.
