Fighting continues in most parts of the Amara region

Borkena
Toronto – Ethiopian Defense Force has reportedly deployed fighter helicopters in Ajire Janora area of Gondar, Amhara region of Ethiopia, in a move to rescue its forces besieged in the area.
Local sources say there has been intense fighting in the area for days. About 400 government forces were said to be besieged.
Commando forces are deployed to the area as part of the effort to rescue encircled government forces. The helicopters were also used to transport wounded government soldiers.
The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked about the situation.
Apart from Ajire Janora, intense fighting has been reported further north in what appears to be a continued battle to control the corridor line to Sudan. Dabat, Belesa,Armachiho and Ebnat areas have experienced the reported intense fighting.
Ethiopian Media Service (EMS) cited Arbegna Wabi Reta – one of the fano rep in North Gondar – to report that 100 government forces were killed.
There was a drone strike in the area too in the same area but the number of casualties from it were unspecified. The Amhara region of Ethiopia is still inaccessible to reporters and human rights advocates. Another drone strike is also reported in the Gojjam area.
In addition, local sources report that there was intense fighting in the Shoa area of the Amhara region, and an Ambush attack on government soldiers in West Wollo. Again, casualties from these incidents are unspecified.
The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked at this writing about besieged forces in the Ajire Janora area of Gondar and the deployment of Air Force.
On the other hand, the Defense Force on Saturday announced that it has been engaging local communities in South Gondar on the issue of “making peace in the area sustainable.”
It has been months since Ethiopian Defense Force declared what it called “final operation” recover the most areas from the Fano forces
Government Forces withdrawal from the region
Chief of the Ethiopian Defense Force, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, was in Bahir Dar in November this year- seat of the Amhara region – where he had a meeting with the regional government authorities.
It was reported that the Defense Chief threatened to withdraw forces from the region if the operation that is tagged as “Final ” fails to defeat rebel forces by the end of December. He was alleging that government officials in the region support Fano forces.
The rebel forces continue to control most areas in the Amhara region. They are even making claims of significant military gains in many areas. And there is no sign that the Defense Force is withdrawing from the region.
The Abiy Ahmed led federal government initially stated – when it launched the operation in the Amhara region in August 2023 – that it would complete it within a few weeks.

The article you’ve cited is filled with misleading narratives, fueled by the illusion of Fano forces as liberators, when in reality, they are a disorganized, illiterate group driven by misguided rage and jealousy, lacking any coherent objective. It’s critical to confront these lies with facts to set the record straight.
1. Fano Forces and Their Claims:
The Fano groups that continue to spread false narratives are made up of a handful of individuals who, instead of focusing on the well-being of their people, have taken up arms based on selfish motives. Their fighters, driven by emotions and frustration, lack strategic direction and a clear cause, making them more of a destructive force rather than a liberating one. It’s crucial to note that these individuals were never part of a legitimate movement with widespread support, as they present themselves to be. Their actions are rooted in ignorance and a disregard for the nation’s unity.
2. The Ethiopian Defense Force’s Responsibility:
The Ethiopian Defense Force (EDF) has refrained from responding with violence against its own citizens despite the Fano’s continuous aggression. This restraint speaks volumes about the government’s commitment to peace and the preservation of life, even as Fano rebels continue to instigate conflict within their own region. The Ethiopian government has prioritized reconciliation and peace-building, focusing on humanitarian aid and negotiations over military confrontation, something that Fano supporters fail to acknowledge.
3. Claims of Casualties and Drone Strikes:
The article cites reports from Fano representatives claiming that 100 government soldiers were killed and drones were deployed, but these reports are entirely unsubstantiated. The reality is that Fano groups often exaggerate and fabricate stories about government casualties to boost morale and portray themselves as a legitimate force. The absence of independent verification from credible sources renders these claims irrelevant. The Ethiopian government has not confirmed any significant casualty figures from these supposed encounters.
4. The Fano’s Control of Regions:
It’s true that Fano groups continue to claim control over areas in the Amhara region, but their hold is fragile and limited. Their supposed “military gains” are more the result of temporary territorial occupations than any significant strategic victories. The Ethiopian Defense Force has maintained its strong presence and is committed to ensuring the stability and security of the nation. Fano’s hold over the region is a result of temporary insurgency, not a reflection of widespread popular support.
5. The “Final Operation” and the Defense Force’s Commitment:
The Ethiopian government’s “final operation” is an ongoing effort to restore order and security in the Amhara region. The declaration by Chief of Defense, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, in November regarding the operation’s end reflects the government’s patience, not failure. The claim that the Defense Force would withdraw if the operation wasn’t successful by December is a strategic move meant to pressure local authorities, not an indication of retreat. The truth is, the Ethiopian Defense Force has shown remarkable resilience and continues to ensure that no one faction or rebel group controls the region for long.
6. The International Perspective:
The notion that Amhara regions are inaccessible to reporters and human rights advocates is misleading. While security concerns may temporarily limit the flow of information, international bodies continue to monitor the situation closely. The real issue is not access, but the deliberate spreading of lies by forces such as Fano to make their operations appear more successful than they are. These groups exploit media and misinformation to gain sympathy, but their violent methods and lack of accountability expose them for what they truly are: illiterate and destructive.
In conclusion, Fano forces are a group driven by internal divisions, misunderstanding, and a desperate attempt to control regions they have no rightful claim to. Their narrative is built on lies, and the truth is clear: the Ethiopian government remains committed to peace, security, and stability. The Defense Force continues to operate with restraint and responsibility, and it will ensure that the region is protected from those who wish to destroy it. It is crucial to stand against these falsehoods, to preserve the unity and peace of Ethiopia, and to reject the dangerous ideas perpetuated by these ill-prepared fighters.

You nailed it!
100% my friend, writers used to be afraid of writing false narrative in the past to keep themselves clean. Nowadays some people are no longer shy to speak or write wrong stuff and they still want lots of likes and share for that :) Wey Geze…
