Toronto – 20 Ethiopian Migrants are reportedly killed after a boat capsized off the coast of Yemen. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday in Yemen’s Dubab District in Ta’iz Governorate, according to the report from IOM.
Nine of the victims were female and the remaining 11 men. The boat was carrying 35 people including the operator.
“The vessel, carrying 35 Ethiopian migrants along with a Yemeni captain and his assistant, departed from Djibouti and capsized near Al-Hajjajah in Bani Al-Hakam sub-district,” IOM reported.
15 survivors including women arrived at the shore.
It seems that the accident is related to weather conditions. “The boat, suspected to have departed from the Hammarta area in Djibouti, reportedly capsized amid strong seasonal winds,” IOM reported.
