The Ethio-Japan Trade and Investment Symposium opened today in Addis Ababa with the participation of various stakeholders.
On the occasion, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mesganu Arga, stated that the bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Japan is strong and historic. The state minister stressed the need to further enhance business and trade relations by leveraging mutual opportunities and increasing stakeholder participation.
Ambassador Mesganu also called on Japanese business and technology companies to participate in various sectors as the macroeconomic reforms in Ethiopia create favourable conditions for Japanese investors. He mentioned that investment opportunities are wide and incentives from the government are more favourable.
Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Kassahun Gofe (PhD), in his keynote speech, said that the Ethiopian government will work closely with Japanese investors to invest in Ethiopia under the conducive climate brought about by the homegrown macroeconomic reforms.
Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Shibata Hironori, stated that Ethiopia is a favourable investment destination for Japanese investors, and many more companies from the private sector are interested to pursue business and investment opportunities in the country.
Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Japan, Ambassador Daba Debele on his part, recalled that Ethiopia and Japan have enjoyed a long-standing and fruitful bilateral relationship over the years, built on mutual respect and shared goals. He mentioned the strong development cooperation between the two countries through JICA and under the TICAD platform in various sectors, including agriculture, education, and urban development, among others.
Ambassador Daba also highlighted the significant macroeconomic and financial reforms in Ethiopia and called on Japanese companies to seize the lucrative investment opportunities in the country.
Co-organised by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Regional Integration, the Symposium brought together more than 50 Japanese company representatives and aims at particularly promoting the various investment opportunities in Ethiopia.
