We African women , myself Ethiopian woman, are formidable individuals with an abiding sisterhood that is bonded by the physics of a challenging world, and the chemistry of maternity which separates and distinguishes us from a man in almost every form .
We are asking for our voice to be heard , we are angry over the killing of innocent women and children who bear the brunt of violence in armed conflicts that violate international humanitarian laws, the deliberate targeting of noncombatants or their harm as a collateral damage particularly in Ethiopia’s Amhara region has galvanized us to raise questions about accountability, justice, and the protection of human rights. We Amhara Ethiopian women in particular were waiting for international bodies, governments like the USA to hold perpetrators responsible and ensure us by implementing cease fire and bringing those accountable to criminal court.
As I watched the inauguration of the 47th president in the country I call the police of the world, there was no mention of war atrocities in Africa or issues concerning Africa. I always depended on my adopted country America to defend Ethiopia, since my country had been a longstanding ally of the USA, it seems the nature of the relationship is different than what I had conceived for years. The USA has supported Ethiopia in peacekeeping mission, has provided humanitarian and developmental aid funding health, education and food programs, even though there were times , sanctions and restricted aid was imposed in response to alleged atrocities committed by the present day government in Tigrai region during the pointless war in 2020 that lasted until 2022, ceasefire was implemented after negotiations done by Anthony Blinken, Blinken made repeated visits to Ethiopia , and agreement was reached that lead to cease fire. If not for Blinken , Tigrai would have been completely ruined.
I am angry during this pointless war millions perished from Tigray region, a foreign militia from neighboring Eritrea was allowed to assist the federal government , many atrocities were committed , women and children were violated, their womb was filled with sand and rocks after raping them, their bodies were mutilated when they resisted. I credit my adapted country for the cease fire .
I continue to be angry ,very angry, the killing continued in the Amhara region, ethnic tension on the rise , a very complex conflict, Ethiopia’s governance system based on ethnic federalism since 1995 has caused ethnic tension among different ethnic groups , Tigrians and Amharas use to be the politically influential groups in the history of the country for the most part , they are now rivals, dispute over land , identity and autonomy, and the ruling class from the tribe of Oromo has waged war on Amhara regions .
The Amharas and their territorial claims with neighboring Tigrai and Oromia regions and the government’s failure to protect the interest of Amhara’s has forced Fano , an armed militia group from Amhara region to engage in resisting the federal government’s attack on Amharas, unlike the Tigrean war times the big power United States has not intervened as a mediator between Fano and the federal government.
The Prime minister’s response about the mass murder and displacement of Amhara farmers and their families, the killing of a fully pregnant Amhara women and the removal of the fetus in front of a crowd, the slashing of the fetus’s throat which was displayed to the cheering crowd in Western Wollega, while planting trees in the capital city was, mockingly, shamelessly shrugging his shoulders ……..” We will plant trees in their memory” , not all Oromos are barbaric killers.
Oromos have long lived and worked alongside Amharas, however, since the current regime with majority of Oromos took over power they have turned their back on Amharas, Amharas are distracted by Tigreans as well. Amhara shepherds under ten-year-old are victims of drone attack, Amhara genocide is in progress, most of the men in Amhara regions have joined Fano, so far, the Biden administration, unlike the TIgrean war periods hasn’t attempted to intervene. No Anthony Blinken or his likes were sent to Ethiopia to mediate , as it was done during the Tigrean war.
Martyrdom in Ethiopia is priceless, when Ethiopia was invaded by Italians, it was mostly Amharas who got massacred to protect the freedom of Ethiopia, which is now the only country invaded but never occupied by colonizers.
Ethiopia’s war with Ethiopia is actively claiming the lives of Amhara youth , women and children. Amhara regions are rewarded with killing , starvation due to poverty created by the corrupt political leaders masquerading as people who care.
I am angry, very angry, as I sit in my comfortable home in the great USA and watch the 47th president take office. Mr. 47th had not shown personal engagement with African leaders when he was 45th, he actually made remarks calling Africa Shity , diplomatic relations during his time was strained with Ethiopia. His return speech never addressed Africa, which superpower will speak for Africa????, ” Let Shity people kill each other ” might be the response of 47th…… who will listen to Africa?, who will care about Ethiopia’s war with itself, Sudan’s war with itself, causing Sudanese people to flee their country to Libya , a country that does not recognize united nations refugee status, Sudanese women are getting raped and exploited with no where to go, no one to rescue, and, ongoing conflict in the democratic republic of DRC, rooted in political and ethnic tension, an area forever not stranger to violence due to their leaders corruption and cruelty, again it is women and children who have perished and displaced and continue to perish and be displaced……… African leaders’ cruelty , arrogance will someday subject them to unknown danger, and a painfully undignified end .
I am angry and very angry. I will send a copy of this note to the 47th to take over the continent of Africa on a management lease for the next four years and clean up the continent and crush the corrupt , cruel leaders.
No wonder he never mentioned us in his inaugural speech, we are not worth his precious time.
Bringing back the colonial era, Africa might be better off with the colonizers……….Our leaders, the black African leaders in all levels of civil and political leadership are collectively and undeniably responsible for all the suffering of women and children…… My feelings and emotions are borne of observation, personal experience and understanding and anger since the time of The Red Terror era during the communist regime’s butcher named Mengistu Hailemarian living in Zimbabwe when he should be standing at the Hague.
