GAMBELLA-The average rate of refugees arriving to western Ethiopia’s Gambella Region from South Sudan has recently increased from 90 people per day to 100 people per day.

According to a map published by the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), refugees are still crossing from Upper Nile State’s Maiwut, Nasser, and Ulang counties, while others are coming from Akobo, Pochalla and Pibor counties in Jonglei.

Most of the refugees are coming from areas inhabited by the Nuer tribe (in brown) while some are coming from areas inhabited by the Anyuak (in red). Farther to the south, some Murles have arrived at Raad (not shown) in Dimma woreda.

Ethiopia hosts approximately 256,000 refugees, about 194,00 of whom arrived in the country since December 2013. OCHA expects that the number of refugees may increase to 300,000 to 350,000 by the end of March next year.
