Addis Ababa city administration announced on Wednesday that it has finalized preparations to receive Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed ceremoniously as he returns from Norway where he went to collect his Nobel Peace Prize Award.

The City’s Press Secretariat head, Feven Teshome, said a hero’s welcome ceremony is organized for Thursday in the morning.

Residents of the city, youth and various taxi association are also making preparations for the event, Feven disclosed during her press briefing in the capital Addis Ababa.

They will be marching from Bole International Airport to the National Palace early in the morning.

“It is a day that we express our feeling that we have accepted we got from the world for being peace loving,” she added.

The city administration seem to believe that the Nobel Peace Prize had a positive impact in terms of investment and tourist inflow in addition to showing Ethiopia’s image to the world.

Public offices and schools will not be closed but they will be part of the celebration while carrying out their routine, said city administration.

What measures are in place to avert any possible security incident that could mar the event? Details are unavailable but it is expected that the Federal Police will be deployed in addition to Addis Ababa police.

In addition to ardent TPLF supporters, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is now facing opposition from his former boss and close confidant, Lemma Megersa, who criticized the move to form Prosperity Party by merging eight parties that were formerly members of the ruling coalition, Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF).

Abiy Ahmed’s Nobel Lecture was highly rated by Ethiopians although some opposition leaders like National Movement of Amhara point out that the Prime Minister’s speech was inaccurate when it comes to political prisoners in the country.  PM Abiy said there are no political prisoners.

Ethiopians were particularly excited that the event at Oslo City Hall, where PM Abiy received his award on Tuesday, turned out to be one that created an opportunity for the world to know about Ethiopia. Nobel Peace Prize Committee Chairwomen, Berit Reiss-Andersen, hailed Ethiopia as a cradle of mankind. “In that sense we are all Ethiopians,” she said during her speech.

Thousands of Ethiopians gathered outside the event place to cheer Abiy Ahmed. Later in the evening, Ethiopia’s marched to a hotel where Prime Minister Abiy was staying. He showed up with his wife in the balcony of his hotel to greet this fans.

The Nobel Prize Committee selected Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed as the 2019 award winner mainly because of his contribution for the Ethio-Eritrea peace initiative which ended over two decades of no-peace-no-war relation between the two countries.

Dear Readers: Please, re-read those two lines, enunciated by a foreigner [i.e. not Ethiopian]. Question: Why are ‘modern’ Ethiopians struggling to divide the “cradle of mankind” into pieces? What happened to the multitude of Doctor of Philosophy Degree [PH D Degrees} HOLDERS? We see them mutilating the country into pieces for their own individual glorious positions to enrich themselves for eternity – hence, implying a strange attitude of >>> THE HELL WITH ETHIOPIA. WHAT A TRAGEDY!!!

  2. To those of you who are rushing to write the obituary of the old country as we know it I say you will be very disappointed by its resilience. It will somehow find its mojo to come out of the conundrum badly bruised but still shining with all its precious children in her comforting arms. Quote me on that!!! Bigots will ultimately die out leaving their ugly history behind. What they are doing now proves the fact that they have chosen to be remembered on the wrong side history as hate mongers and savage leaders. Who will forget what William Joseph Simpson did from the top of the Stone Mountain? Who will choose to give George Gordon some slacks for his Precept? Just remember, history is prolific in taking down names and keeping them forever!!!!
