Toronto – The Federal government of Somalia is changing its position in relation to having dialogue with Ethiopia to deescalate tension and resolve differences.

The third round of Turkey initiated talk was expected to take place in early September. Somalian  President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud seems to have changed his mind after signing a military pact with Egypt.

In a televised speech on Saturday, he accused Ethiopia for the failure of the second round of indirect talk in Ankara which took place on August 14. It failed “because Ethiopia did not respect Somalia’s Sovereignty and territorial integrity,” according to a report by BBC Amharic.

He stated that Somalia will not hold talks with Ethiopia on any issues. “From Ankara talk we have concluded that Ethiopia is not willing to accept Somalia’s Sovereignty and that Somalia is an independent neighbor.  Until it accepts this, we will not have talks on any issue.”

The president’s position is contradictory to the statement that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia released on August 14. The ministry stated :  “The Federal Republic of Somalia is committed to participating in the upcoming third round of talks, with the expectation that it will result in a definitive resolution that reinforces Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, in strict adherence to international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.”

It appears that Somalia’s defense agreement with Egypt has impacted talk that Turkey initiated. The Turkish News Agency, Anadolu Agency (AA) , last week reported that  “significant defense agreement between Somalia and Egypt, aimed at bolstering security cooperation between the two brotherly nations.”

Borkena has this week received a news alert from a source that Egypt is attempting to form an ethnic Somali armed rebel group wihtin Ethiopia. Email sent to Somalia regional government to remark on the claim is unanswered.

When Ethiopia and Somaliland signed a memorandum of understanding on January 1, 2024 , Somalia accused Ethiopia of “violating” Somalia’s sovereignty and stated that there would be no room for dialogue before Ethiopia revokes the MoU with Somaliland.  Ethiopia did not do so.

Turkey – Somalia’s ally with a largest military base – initiated an indirect talk in Ankara but the two rounds of talk ended without an agreement.

Landlocked Ethiopia sees its pursuit of  access to the sea as a “legitimate interest.”

The MoU agreement with Somaliland – a breakaway region of Somalia in the north that existed as a de facto independent state for more than 33 years – is not yet finalized.

The deal grants Ethiopia to have 20 kilometers of coastal land in Somaliland on a 50 years rental basis. Somaliland has been asserting its rights to enter into a deal with Ethiopia and rejects Somalia Federal government position that it is part of Somalia.

Ethiopia has not remarked about the Government of Somalia’s latest position and Turkey is yet to confirm if the third round of talks is canceled.

  1. Egypt has been looking for excuse to attack the old country militarily for decades and decades. It was Sudan it tried to use as patsy until the civil war started tearing that country apart. It seemed that Egypt was having difficulties to secure a reliable subservient(beast of burden) in The Sudan one military dictator after another. Now, at least for now, it seems to have found a new ‘abd/house nigger’ at the Villa Mogadishu. Don’t be surprised if it finds a few subservient mules among our own that can be used as guides when it sends its fat cats to launch a military expedition inside the old country. Brother Isaias will never go with the plan. Don’t be surprised if part or all of the OLA go with it or at least play dumb about it. Who knows if other so-called rebel groups join el-Sisi’s ‘dagadash’ dance. Don’t be surprised if some among us sold their souls to the devil in Al-Qahirah.

Meanwhile, I urge every country that has been arming their orphan in Al-Qahirah to remind him that those black folks are not building the dam to do harm to the citizens of both Sudan and Egypt. They have to warn their orphan not to use the military hardware they have armed him to the teeth. I also want to remind them that those megalomaniacs in Al-Qahirah have a history of using weapons of mass destruction when they are embarrassed on the battlefields. They had done that to the people of Yemen in Kawma and Kitaf in North Yemen in the 1960’s. Egypt is believed to have a massive stockpile of chemical weapons banned globally under the Geneva Conventions. It will not hesitate to use them on those black folks when its military is embarrassed on the battlefields and it will be embarrassed for sure. Just try to picture that lard ass Egyptian soldier going boing, boing in the highlands of Western Hararghe. Just imagine that. It will be an easy target for my Itu riflemen. It will be an easy pick for that fire spitting Amhara, Tigre, Somali, Sidama, Gambela, Beni Shangul sharpshooter. Then el-Sisi will send his F16’s, Mirages, Sukhoi’s and other panhandled air crafts to rain banned chemical weapons on those innocent black folks. I want his current benefactors to know and expect this. They should restraint their orphan in Al-Qahirah.

  2. One has to notice recent comments by el-Sisi in which he repeatedly tried to tell the world that the water from the Nile is a matter of survival for the people of Egypt. He made such comments in lights of the fact that since the start of construction of the GERD on the Blue Nile not a single spoonful of water has been reduced from the flow water reaching Egypt. That includes even during the filling of the dam itself for the last 3 years. Not a drop of water has been taken off from the river. That is a fact on the ground. So why all of this moving the jaws in Al-Qahirah, you may ask? If you had a chance to live in Egypt it would not be so hard to figure it all out.

The megalomaniacs in Al-Qahirah have this long-held ambition to be the only and dominant power controlling the Red Sea and the entire region from Alexandria all the way to Kismayo. Otherwise, their worry about the flow of water because of the dam is much ado about nothing. They have appropriated Sudan’s territory already since the 1950’s. Eritrea has been a terrible loss for them because our very dear Eritrean brothers and sisters turned out to be tough cookies and that will never change. Then what? What they have resorted to has been to destabilize everyone they can put their hands on. That is what we see them now trying to pitch two neighbors against each other. They may have found one heck of desperate beasts of burden camping out at Villa Mogadishu.

  3. Tigray is one of the major regional powers and can contribute to peace and stability in the region. Mr. Mike Hammer who is also the US envoy to Tigray needs to visit Tigray and the region to address the emerging crisis in the horn.
