Toronto – The two factions within the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) are on a path to reconciliation.
The Tigray Mass Media Agency (TMMA)on Friday cited religious leaders as saying that they have held talks to resolve the dispute within the TPLF through dialogue.
Picture published by TMMA shows members of the renegade Archbishops and newly appointed ones after the formation of “Menbere Selama Synod” breaking away from the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Holy Synod. Muslim religious leaders in the region do not seem to be involved in the mediation effort.
According to the VOA Amharic service, the religious leaders made arrangements for Getachew Reda, president of the Interim Administration of Tigray , and Debretsion Gebremichael to meet in person. However, last week the former shared a picture of him with Debretsion and one other unnamed person, who appears to be among the mediators, which suggests that it is not for the first time for the two leaders to meet in person after several months of tense political acrimony.
Leaders of the two factions will be meeting “soon,” according to the report from VOA Amharic.
The division within the organization was strong to the point that there was concern in the region that the two factions could head to a military conflict. The security forces in the region under Tadesse Worede had been issuing warnings stating that the security forces in the region would not allow conflict to happen and that people should not worry about the division within the TPLF.
While the immediate cause for the division is said to be related to the 14th congress of the organization and re-registration process with the National electoral board, it appeared more like a power struggle and difference over the Pretoria agreement which was signed in November 2022. The two years war between TPLF and Abiy Ahmed’s government, which the Pretoria agreement ended, is said to have claimed an estimated one million lives in Afar, Amhara and Tigray regions.
Last week, Getachew Reda announced that he has named Tadesse Worede as acting Interim President of the region without explaining why he is doing so and how long Tadesse’s position would last.
Meanwhile, A new security and military council is established. It is composed of seven members under the leadership of Getachew Reda and will deal with peace, security and security related issues in the region. The remaining members of the team are Tadese Worede (Deputy Chair), Tsadkan Gebretensae (member), Fesseha Mangus (Member) , Yohannes Merid, Teklay Ashebir and Isaias Tadesse. Five of them are military generals.

This is a news of respite for those upright and peace mongering people in Tigray region. It is redeeming news to me to know this reconciliation was achieved only when the leaders of one the two major Abrahamic faiths intervened. With Faith in The Good Lord, even commies are subdued!!! Praise The Lord!!!
Btw, watch your body weight you three TPLF honchos. Look at the beer gut of the first from left to right along with Getachew and Debre in the middle. Every time I see their photos, they are bulging up. But what we notice among civilians is emaciated faces. You three! Eat in moderation. You see that food in front of you on the dinner table? It is the gift of The Almighty Our Creator for the nourishment of our body. It is not your enemy. Watch your bulging waistline. Otherwise, people may have difficulties waking you up one of these days!!!
