Toronto – Getachew Reda’s faction of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) on Monday launched a series of meetings in the region’s capital Mekele. The purpose of the meeting was “to save TPLF.”
VOA Amharic cited Getachew as saying “the meeting helps us depict the difference vividly and pass decisions that benefits the region”
Senior TPLF leaders who did not take part during the 14th Congress of the organization that Debretsion’s faction prepared last month are taking part in the meeting Getachew called, according to the source
Recently, the Debretsion faction announced that it has terminated Getachew Reda and 15 other senior party officials as party members and announced that they can not represent the TPLF in any way.
Currently, Getachew Reda is president of the Interim Administration which was established as a result of the Pretoria Agreement. The interim administration is said to be drawn from different stakeholders including TPLF. Getachew was named as president of the administration representing the TPLF.
Getachew Reda has been reporting about moves on the part of the TPLF to undertake a coup – something that is believed to lead the region to conflict if successful.
Getachew Reda’s faction seems to have the support of the Federal government while Debretsion’s faction lacks it. The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia has announced that it will not accept the 14th party congress citing rules violations including failure to notify the Board before three weeks.
The difference within the party that led to the emergence of two factions has something to do with the Pretoria Agreement of November 2022 which ended the two years bloody war between the TPLF and Abiy Ahmed’s government.
According to reports from the region, the Debretsion faction blames Getachew Reda and other former TPLF leaders including Tsadkan Gebretensae over “agreeing for the end of TPLF led administration in Tigray.” Debretsion and his friends believe that the agreement should not have been signed.
Getachew Reda’s group are now seen as “collaborators” to Abiy Ahmed’s Administration. Getachew’s narrative is different.. Debretsion, chairman of the TPLF, personally begged Getachew Reda for the Pretoria Agreement to be signed.

Folks, how come the leaders of this outfit still call it TPLF? Didn’t they ‘liberate’ their region in 1991? Who they gonna ‘liberate’ their region from? It seems the region needs to liberate itself from these bigots and connivers. They are like Shayk Al-Bahr(Old Man of The Sea) riding on the backs of the upright people of Tigray. What they are doing now is that because they could not find anyone they want to pick up a fight with, they instead are hatching a bloody way against each other. I told you already how commies and their protégés can become stubborn creatures. It is their way or the highway. Boy, do I have utter contempt for commies and their offshoots or what!!!!
