Toronto – The United States seems to be concerned that the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) is in internal political trouble with a possibility for bloody conflict.
Two factions within the organizations are pointing fingers at each other over the “violation” of party rules and regulations on matters related to how the party is getting registered again with the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia and the preparation of the 14th congress which the Debretsion faction claims to have concluded last week.
According to local Ethiopian News sources, U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga arrived in Mekelle on Monday with the aim to ease the tension within the TPLF.
The move seems to defy norms of diplomatic mission. The U.S. is now intervening within internal affairs of an opposition party – in this case a political organization that was once designated by the Ethiopian Parliament as a “terrorist organization.” It is becoming more apparent that the United States is running Ethiopian Affairs under the guise of diplomatic opeartions in the country.
Ambassador Massinga was received by Getachew Reda (interim president of the region) and Tadesse Worede (Deputy president).
He is expected to hold talks with the rival TPLF factions led by Getachew Reda and Debretsion Gebremichael, as reported by local sources.
TPLF has been a U.S. client both as a guerrilla force before 1991 and after it took power.
It was also the U.S. that worked relentlessly to save it from being destroyed as a political force during the war between the TPLF on one hand and the Abiy Ahmed administration- Eritrea alliance on the other (not to mention Afar and Amhara region resistance forces).
The U.S. initiated all kinds of sanction regimes against Abiy Ahmed’s administration at the United Nations Security Council among other platforms. It was China and Russia that helped to reverse the proposed sanctions. -Abiy Ahmed’s administration itself is believed to be a client to the United States.
“Genocide” and “rape” in Tigray were the key allegations that the U.S. government used to mobilize a sanction regime. Last week, Getachew Reda came to the open saying that rape was a regional problem.

The relationship between USA and Tigray should be strengthened since the latter is a major power in the region. The USA is for a strong and stable Tigray as its envoy Mr. Mike Hammer had pointed out during one of his visits to Makelle. The Pretoria agreement is now dead and void and Tigray has no obligation to implement it. The government of Abiy Ahmed is faltering and losing control in Oromia nd Amhara regions. War between Amhara and Oromia is a likely scenario and the invasion and occupation of Oromia which is the gift of Tigray to the Oromo people will invite Tigray intervention.
Regatdless of the TPLF childish quarrels and cracks withing, this abundantly made clear how much tthe USA and other western powers vested their interest in this minority ethnic clique over 27 long and hard years and at the expense of the average Ethiopians. It also made clear that they encouraged , abated and single-handedly saved them after in the last deadly confrontation with the Abiy’s current regime . I am also afraid tthis group are still their favorite dark horses for future regime changes schemes in the near future just to keep the impoverished masses to be cowed and controlled.
TPLF for US is a “too big to fail” proxy, and they recently held “a situation room” talk, and Tigray’s’ own envoy M. hammer was rushed in to do something, now the former (traditionally) a ‘field-slave; promoted to ‘house-slave’ is told to go to mend the rift within its proxy… ( as in the Samuel L. Jackson character in the movie “Django”) .
The poor people of Tigray are left to suffer as always, even when the TPLF was in power they saw nothing improve… same old same old for them, now nothing but more suffering in the hands of the TPLF’s own troops raking havoc on the population & businesses, particularly on women and girls…
Lately, there are some “sleeper cell” chatters trying to create narratives, such as ‘FANO & TPLF must unite forces… ‘, and ‘TPLF is a gift to Oromo to help it fight FANO, or Abiy… etc. , etc. rubbish.
TPLF is practically DEAD, but its kept in ‘life-support’ for several long term political & economic reasons…
One may ask why is there so much US interest in the TPLF?
Well, just like the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, AQI, ISIS , ISIL, , Al-Shabaab, and all the rest before them as the US’s brain-Childs, TPLF is one of them; though its members were first recruited by MI6 from its school in Addis, General Winget in 1970’s. US took over once the gorilla group matured in its gorilla warfare tactics while in the mountains of Tigray as organized & trained there by MI6 in the 70s & 80s.

It is the US’s pattern of deception that is dragging it through the mud every now and then… and it has gone both financially poorer and morally-depleted due to its deceptive ways through out the world.
In the TPLF’s case money is not the issue for the US, the difficulty here is, being unable to provide weapons.
It fought hard in “Pretoria talks” ( not sure why it was even allowed to be in there) to get “Welkit’ in the Tigray zone, specifically as its weapon supply-route, but the problem at the moment is Sudan is in civil war and Welkiet is not a possible route (there is also FANO, I assume) the Ethiopian army may have been stationed there as well to monitor the border with Sudan for the same reason.
The US has Poland and Romania and all the rest to supply its proxy in Ukraine, but here, Kenya is not close enough & the customs-office will not let anything like that go through, so it is trying via Somalia using Egypt ( and Egypt is trying to carry out its orders, as we speak).
The only other ways are “air drop”, ( which they might try) or USAID GMO wheat-packages due for Tigray, which has to go through Addis ( that must be carefully inspected, even if it takes more time, every supply package must be opened and transferred to a new sack/container by customs-officers).
The US is trying hard to get the TPLF back to Addis in one form or another, and help it get to power once it is there… It is obvious to everyone but the US that Its schemes will not succeed, but it has to go through the motions as usual.
It is over.
TPLF will never make it to Addis let alone take power, ever again.
For all things, there is a beginning and there is an end, we are watching the latter both for the US’s destabilizations effort in Ethiopia and its TPLF proxy existence, as in a slow motion movie.
Some say, this coming 2024 election in the US might be ‘the last’.
As Louis Farrakhan often say “The chickens come home to roost “, where centuries old accumulated KARMA unraveling before our eyes.
Wait and see!
Be well.
Thanks for stating the obvous.

Why is the US government so intensely courting the TPLF for almost 50 years. American foreign policy on ethiopia is guided by the policy document which Henry Kissinger produced for the US government in 1972 . similarly Lord Macaulay a foreign policy adviser to the UK government is the main architect regarding foreign policy issues concerning Ethiopia and Africa. Both men have similar views on the issue and these policies are followed to the letter by the US as well as the UK governments to the present day.
Henry Kissinger, while heading the National Security Council in 1972, wrote a confidential report on the future of Ethiopia. Kissinger recommended that the United States should exploit internal tensions in Ethiopia by taking advantage of vulnerabilities that include ethnic, religious, and other divisions. Furthermore, National Security Study Memorandum 200 (NSS200) discussed ‘the necessary threshold for industrial development in Africa should be curtailed’. This establishes best way to preserve the status quo control of the Red Sea as well to counter transnational Pan-Africanism from rising in the Horn of Africa.
Henry Kissinger’s proposal centered around exploiting ethnic, religious, and other differences to maintain perpetual tension as well as conflicts in Ethiopia, transforming the country into a submissive client state. As the last Bastian of independence in Africa, the Ethiopia had to undergo a series of “civilizing efforts” modeled on Western experiences
Macaulay’s approach centers around dismantling the core essence of the nation, namely its spiritual and cultural heritage, and replacing its ancient education system and culture. The aim is to influence Ethiopia to perceive foreign and English influences as superior, leading to a loss of self-esteem, abandonment of native culture, and eventual dominance by external forces. On the other hand, Henry Kissinger’s strategy revolves around exploiting ethnic, religious, and other divisions within Ethiopia to perpetuate ongoing conflicts.
