Toronto – Somalia has been facing security challenges for decades to the point that a peace keeping mission was needed in which Ethiopia played a crucial role.

The country is still lacking effective control over many areas of  Somalia. Yet it is threatening to train armed groups that are fighting against  the Ethiopian government unless Ethiopia revokes the Memorandum of Understanding it signed with Somaliland on January 1, 2024.

VOA Amharic cited Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, Somalia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, as saying “If the Ethiopian government is pushing the effort to implement the agreement with Somaliland, his country will start to support rebels groups fighting in Ethiopia.”

The minister revealed his government’s plan in an interview with Universal TV,  a local TV channel, in Somalia, according to the VOA Amharic report.

“We have not reached that stage yet…there is still a hope that ‘it has a solution.’ However, if Ethiopia continues to push the path it took, talking to rebels and standing with them is an open option for us,” he added.

The Minister was also asked if there is a plan to establish relations with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). He admitted that there was discussion in that area but no further detail was unveiled. In late August, borkena received information from sources from the Somalia region of Ethiopia indicating that Egypt has been attempting to organize a new militant armed group against the Ethiopian government.  An email was sent to the Somali regional government to remark about it but no response is received so far.

Recently, Somalia signed a military pact with Egypt which is deploying 10,000 troops. Multiple rounds of Egyptian military flights to Mogadishu were reported over the past three weeks and they are believed to have delivered firearms.

Yesterday, news emerged that  Ethiopian soldiers in Somalia took control of airports in Somalia except the one in Mogadishu. The Ethiopian government has not confirmed

Apart from Egypt, Somalia also fostered relations with Eritrea – a country that has provided military training to thousands of Somali soldiers – and in Eritrean soil.  As is the case with Egypt, the relation between Ethiopia and Eritrea deteriorated once again ; this time it became more apparent after Abiy Ahmed’s government announced  interest in the pursuit of access to the Red Sea.

Ethiopia and Somalia were scheduled to hold the third round of talk in Ankara in a few days but there are unconfirmed reports that Somalia is not attending it.

  1. The current Somalian leaders are identifying themselves as enemies of Ethiopia, but not simply enemies of Ethiopian leaders. The current Somalian leaders are identifying themselves as enemies of Ethiopia, but not simply enemies of Ethiopian leaders.

“Somalian ruling gang have not reached that stage yet…there is still a hope that ‘it has a solution.’ However, if Ethiopia continues to push the path it took, talking to rebels and standing with them is an open option for us,” he added.
This suggests that Somali incumbent authorities are waging war on our people, intensifying internal conflicts, displacement, starvation, and endless death as a result. If fanno leaders and supporters approve of this type of foreign intervention, they are nothing but traitors, terrorists, and bandits.

  2. I am inclined to believe that OLA has his reps in Villa Mogadishu already and a faction of Fano may be at a connection flight airport to Mogadishu. ONLF is no question that it has beaten OLA and Fano to it thru its standing rep the only foreign policy expert on the Horn of Africa, Af-Mishaar. No wonder why bigots and connivers in Minnesota, Toronto, Tennessee, Michigan, Oslo, DC and Down Under are in an upbeat mood lately. They might have begun packing already to move to their newly minted republic soon to be liberated by the mighty armies of el-Sisi and Villa Mogadishu. Oh, poor boy me, am jealous!!!

  3. It is now made official by the leaders of Somalia currently camping out at Villa Mogadishu that they start giving military and financial assistance to the rebel groups currently wreaking havoc inside Ethiopia. But putting my sketch, my setup for the punch line aside, this announcement by Somalia’s leaders reminds me what one of my Issa friends told me when I had the chance to see him again in the early 1980’s after he was resettled in a small town in the Midwest here in the USA. He was the brother of my early childhood. He was forced to flee the old country from Mengistu’s killing spree and seek refuge in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. He told me he had cross paths with fighters from the TPLF during the years 1976-78 who were there taking training in the use of heavy artillery guns. Mind you that was the time when the Somali army along with its beast of burden, ONLF, were rampaging in eastern parts of the old country massacring innocent unarmed students, peasants and small town residents who were not Somalis. One of those savagely murdered was one of my childhood friends, Abebe Gurmu, who was a civil servant in Western Hararghe. He was an Oromo who professed Christianity. My Issa friend was still inside Ethiopia when that took place. The reason they murdered him was that he complained about how he and others like him who sought refuge were being treated by the ONLF. Then one early morning they took him out and about thirty other non Somali refugees and used them as target practice by their newly recruited militia. That was the last straw for our Issa brothers and sisters to order the ONLF and the Somali regular army to leave their territory. That was what started the tide turning on Siad Barre’s hooligans. But at the same time in Somalia, the late prime minister and his comrades were training on how to use heavy and long range guns on their own countrymen. My friend told me how disgusted he was seeing them scavenging at the dumpsites in Somalia. So I won’t be surprised if OLA and certain factions of Fano are in Mogadishu already scavenging just as their predecessors. I am just getting nauseated thinking by such repugnant behavior.

  4. The al-Qaeda linked terrorist group so called AL-Shabaab had worsen in Somalia, Kenya, even appearing in Mali, Burkina Faso, acts of violence in Ghana etc. These armed forces of terrorism are perceived to be armed by several nations where I’m research it has been linked to Western nations who are into the heavy exploitation of Africa resources.

Everyone watching international news in the interests of Africa’s stability are seeing how these Al-Qaeda groups are threatening the humanity and sovereignty of Africa nations. Also, it is unwise or a poor choice for Somali to escalate a war with its neighbors Ethiopia. Ethiopia’s progress will benefit Somali in the future.

In sum, Al-Qaeda is the real threat to the Somali nation. Ethiopia has even given them troops to combat the terrorism that threatens even Ethiopia own national security. Somali situation with the Al-Qaeda terrorist groups are extreme savaging the lives to innocent civilians. Ethiopia and Somali are brothers and sisters, the should organize unity now at this hour.

  5. Al-Qahirah’s beasts of burden at Villa Mogadishu has it made known to any one concerned that their door is now wide open to those who need arms and financial assistance fighting not only the regime but also they hate with run away passion, Ethiopia. So it looks the dash to Mogadishu is on. Before it was to Piccolo Roma but now it is in the southerly direction. That is sweet music to ears for bigots and connivers who have been camping out in Minnesota, Toronto, Tennessee, Michigan, DC, Oslo and Down Under.

Now it is gonna be the game of ‘who is in first?’ Which one is going to show up first in Mogadishu? In Al-Qahirah all seats are sold out and Muammar Gaddafi is not around so you can tell him ‘We Tigres are also Arabs’. Assad has his hands full already and Saddam was long gone. Hurry up the seat waiting for you in Mogadishu will be snatched away by your old buddy OLA or the new kid on the block Fano. One more thing. You remember what you did in Afar Region during the recent bloodletting in 2020-2022? ICC may be coming for you about that. Hurry up!!! Boy, it shows OLA is sorely missing the Lenchos. Lenchos, yes the Richard The Lion Heart, black style. At one time there were more lions(Lenchos) in the outfit than the lions roaming the plains behind Garaa Asabot. They were excellent sharpshooters too because they knew how to massacre innocent poor farmers. They also have anti-venom already in their body because some of them Mengistu failed to kill them in jail after feeding them potassium cyanide daily for a year. One day they put all Mengistu’s prison guards to sleep and walked out of jail to liberate their wholly owned people. Okay, Ethiopia! Out of Oromia! Ethiopia! Out of Amhara! Ethiopia! Out of Tigray! Hey Ethiopia! Out of Ethiopia!!!!! I’m telling Ethiopia! You heard me!!! Out of Ethiopia!!!!!!!!!!

  6. This was not what this Somalia’s ministry of foreign affairs said today. What it said was how Somalia’s mighty armed forces intercepted the shipment of arms to Puntland. As was verified by Türkiye, Al-Qahirah and Piccolo the intercepted arms shipment from Ethiopia to Puntland included:
    1) 265 updated versions of F16 fighter jets
    2) 102 latest version of SU-45 fighter/bomber jets
    3) 142 MI-45 gunboat helicopters
    4) 619 long range air to surface and surface to surface missiles
    5) 49 intercontinental ballistic missiles that have a target range of 15,000 miles
    6) 327 latest version of M1A1 Abrams tanks
    7) 562 APC’s
    8) 20 million RPG’s
    9) 35 million AK-47 and M-16 fully automatic rifles.

I got the video and photos of the intercepted military weapons right here with me. I did not tell you the other similar interceptions heading to Galmudug and Jubaland. All these weapons were manufactured by Ethiopia inside Ethiopia under licenses from the original manufacturers. Hey Ethiopia! You are in deep creek now!!!
