Toronto – The Fano forces operating in the four major areas of the Amhara region of Ethiopia on Monday released a joint statement conveying a mobilization message and the actions they are taking in response to what is said to be Abiy Ahmed’s “final” massive military operation in the region.
In the statement they released in Amharic language, the Fano forces highlighted the massacres the Abiy led administration has been unleashing on ethnic Amhara in the region. In addition to the massacre of civilians, the government is “dispossessing arms in the towns and cities it controls,” in the region, the statement added.
The Fano forces also said what they call the Abiy regime is poised to launch “final” mechanized military operation in the Amhara region. They said it has finalized its preparations for it. “The main motive of the military campaign is to rescue the Prosperity Party and reverse Amhara existential struggle and struggle for justice,” it said.
They said the regime has been flying, (it was in the news that the government used Ethiopian Airlines Flights), soldiers to the region from different corners of the country and mechanized units are mobilized and deployed including in Bahir Dar.
The operation that is said to be launched is placed under the leadership of ethnic Amhara military commanders. The fano forces accuse these generals of being “intoxicated with lust for money,” to help “massacre their own people” , helping a regime that is “buying firearms, spending the limited resources of the poor people.”
Fano insulted the generals as “Banda” – the word denotes a person that collaborates with the enemies of Ethiopia for money or material. “If Banda has a face, it is not exaggeration that it will look like Amhara generals, colonels and senior commanders who are organized under the country’s national army,to support a regime that is “massacring the Amhara people.”
The generals were called by name. The Fano statement blamed General Abebaw Tadesse, who is the deputy chief of staff, General Zewdu Belay and General Adamneh Mengiste. These generals are reportedly given a mission to lead the “final operation against Fano” forces. In addition to mechanized forces, the air force is mobilized for air and drone strikes.
“It is with great honor and pride that we announce Fano forces are in good military standing,” the Fano underscored in their joint statement.
It called upon the youth to avoid Prosperity Party (Abiy Ahmed’s ruling party) related activity and not to be at its disposal. They also called for the anti-riot, militia and defense forces to repent for their past mistakes, and join Fano’s struggle.
The Fano also announced a major road closure across the region starting October 3 in an effort to disrupt the government military campaign.
In a related development, the government has reportedly arrested over 600 government officials in the region on alleged grounds of aiding and leaking information to Fano forces.

Military and security analysts believe that Ethiopia will be a proxy war ground for the regional powers Tigray and Eritrea. The Eritrean trained and armed Amhara forces are defeating the Oromo dominated army and capturing weapons and ammunitions according to sources in the Tigray defense force (TDF). TDF is monitoring the war closely and will intervene if the Amhara forces threaten to overrun Oromia which is the gift of Tigray to the Oromo people. The Eritrean forces played a leading and decisive role in the war in Tigray.
The situation in the old country is getting weirder and weirder. In one part of the country, there is a bloody conflict that disrupted the economy of the area and the area next to it has a booming economy. For example, in western part Oromia and in parts of Wellega, the economy has been in shambles for more than 4 years now. But in several areas nearby the economy is still functioning very well. The same scenarios exist in the Amhara region also. If you look at the regional level you can hear a pin drop and the economy is booming red hot in Somalia region while next door in Oromia things are not so rosy. What a strange country!!! It is just because of a deluded PM who can’t exist without spilling the blood of Ethiopians. It is unfortunate TPLF erected wall between communities because of Ethnic Federalism. So, for now we have 12 nations rather than one Ethiopia.
