Toronto – Fano forces are reportedly eying full control of Bahir Dar – seat of the Amhara regional government. Citizen reports on social media indicate that businesses were closed in the city on Friday.
Last week, there were recurring grenade explosions in selected locations in the city. Multiple local news sources report that Fano forces have a solid military presence within less than 30 kilometers of Bahir Dar City.
The region’s peace and security office claims “Federal and region’s security forces have adequate preparation to maintain peace and take ‘military action’ “
Eshetu Yesuf, deputy head of Amhara region peace and security office, stated “there have been recent attempts by armed groups targeting cities…” In an update from the Amhara region communication office, he cited that there were grenade attacks in cities.
He also admitted that there was closure of businesses, stores and service providing organizations in Bahir Dar on Friday. But he linked the situation to what he called “false information” circulated in the afternoon. “Communities should not receive false information , panic and stop working,” Eshetu added.
About the possibility of Fano taking control of Bahir Dar, he added that the group (Fano) “does not have capability and power to sneak in and take control of the city [Bahir Dar]. The security has made adequate preparations. I want to assure that,” he added. His remark seems to confirm that there was anticipation on the part of the government that Fano forces could enter Bahir Dar.
Earlier this week, Fano Forces announced restriction of vehicles mobility except for ambulances after the Federal Defense Force reportedly deployed more than 30,000 new forces under the leadership of three military generals with a plan to decisively defeat Fano forces in Gojjam.
Fano imposed restriction on vehicle mobility was partly intended to disrupt logistic supply to government forces after the latest massive deployment of government forces in Gojjam, according to Asres Mare, head of political division of Fano forces in Gojjam. As it turns out, people in the transportation business and truck drivers – among others – complied with the restriction.
Fano has not set a date as to when it is lifting it. Except for a few urban centers, most of the areas in the Gojjam area of the Amhara region are under Fano forces.

Let’s say the fighters have taken control of the alleged city. Then what? What are they going to do with it? No foreign country will give them the diplomatic recognition. Even el-Sisi will not unless they surrender the dam to him which is a fat chance.
Let’s all look at the other side of the Blue Nile. Let’s assume those fighting the government in Oromia will succeed in taking full control of Western Oromia. Then what? What will they do with it? No one inside or outside the country will get them the recognition for the territory under they full control. Kenya and South Sudan may even send a combined punitive force to give them a lesson or two.
But I can tell you what is gonna happen and my heart bleeds thinking about those innocent and upright citizens in those two regions. They will be displaced from their homes in their millions. Tens and even hundreds of thousands of those peace-longing citizens will lose their Allah gifted and blessed lives being caught in the crossfire. That is the perfect recipe for that country, that gem of the colored and humanity to have its two backbones irreparably shattered into pieces. That is what I see it coming if these two groups succeed. On the other side, it may be the time for the leadership to pass the mantle to other more capable people. They should at least entertain the idea.
Fano’s ambition to control Bahir Dar is nothing but a delusional fantasy. Their disorganized and outdated tactics make their goals seem unrealistic. Their outdated thinking extends from Gojam to Washington, D.C., and Toronto; no matter where their supporters live or how educated they are, their mindset remains stuck in the past. The group’s criminal actions, including the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, further reveal their moral bankruptcy. They are fighting an unwinnable war with outdated rifles against a government armed with modern drones. In essence, Fano’s aspirations are not only impractical but also highlight their dangerous and obsolete mentality.
I really opposed such kind of ambitions trying to have any means of conflicts that is why in Amhara region at this time the people are severe for multi political, social, economical and other instability .Due to this they students in this region didn’t go to school for the last one year you understand how much students will be out of class it is so awkward to close those public services just like schools, health centers and others. I my opinion no one will get a profit from this conflict rather than exposing the people of the region why not we learn from the the north conflict between the TPLF and the federal government of Ethiopia both of them lost a lot of human lives economical destructions not at all they get. At the end I want to say let us stop and open our heart for discussion there is nothing beyond this please it is time to look our loyal people.
