Toronto – Residents in the Afar region of Ethiopia confirm that a Drone attack that the Djibouti government carried out has killed eight civilians including a child.
Six others have been injured. Borkena reported, on saturday, about it a few days ago and the number of those wounded was indicated to be only three. Those wounded are hospitalized in Dubti.
BBC Amharic reported on Monday that it has confirmed the story from residents in the region.
The incident occurred in Zone 1 of the region, Elidar district, Siaro kebele, last Thursday in the evening.
According to residents who spoke to the source, the drone attack was carried out twice. In the first round, three civilians were killed on Thursday evening. Another drone attack targeted civilians who were gathered on Friday morning to bury the three people who were killed in the first attack. Five were killed.
One of those killed is a woman, one is a child and the remaining six are men. And from those in hospital four are female and two are children, according to the source.
The Djibouti government has released a statement confirming the drone attack. But it said it was carried out within its territory targeting rebel groups which it calls “terrorists.”
The source cited AFP , which cited the Djibouti Defense Force, as saying that the attack was carried out about six kilometers from the Djibouti-Ethiopia border in the Adorta area.
It is said Djibouti government statement admitted the death of civilian Djiboutians without specifying the numbers,
The Ethiopian government or the Afar regional government have not yet remarked about the incident.
