US Embassy Addis Ababa
Press Release
Addis Ababa, December 4, 2024 – U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga on behalf of the U.S. Government delivered remarks and provided equipment including laptops, desktop computers, and printers, to representatives from the Afar, Amhara, Tigray, and Somali regional justice offices and courts.
The provision of equipment aims to significantly enhance the courts’ efficiency in the Afar, Amhara, Tigray, and Somali regions of Ethiopia. The equipment is particularly significant for conflict-impacted regions, where many facilities were destroyed, and new equipment is urgently needed to restore operations.
This initiative aligns with a cooperative agreement between the U.S. Government and the Government of Ethiopia, which focuses on supporting justice sector and rule of law reform. “The U.S. government has a strong and enduring partnership with the Ethiopian justice sector. We are grateful for the opportunity to expand this cooperation to regional offices,” said Ambassador Massinga. “Ensuring rule of law and increasing access to justice is a priority for the U.S. government. We believe technology assistance will enhance transparency and access to judicial services while promoting rule of law engagement in Ethiopia.”
