Toronto – Most of us may be familiar with the biblical story of Sarah giving birth to Isaac at the age of 90. A similarly extraordinary event has reportedly occurred in northern Ethiopia—a 76-year-old woman, Woizero Medhin, has given birth to a baby boy in Mekelle, the seat of the Tigray Regional State.
“I did not feel it when I conceived… God’s will happened,” Woizero Medhin told Dimtse Woyane News. While the exact date of birth and the hospital where it occurred remain unspecified, the timing of the story’s release provides some context. According to Ethiopian Orthodox Church traditions, a babyboy baptism typically takes place 40 days after birth. Since the story was released today on the occasion of the baptism, it is clear that the baby boy was born approximately 40 days ago.
An explicit medical report is not yet available. However, sources on social media indicate that Woizero Medhin gave birth naturally without the need for a cesarean section.
From the video footage shared by Dimtse Woyane, a large celebration was organized for the baptism of the baby. A young man, who appears to be a family member, remarked, “Nothing is impossible for the Holy Savior.”
Woizero Medhin is reported to have other grown-up children.
