Toronto – A drone attack has reportedly killed at least eight civilians in Elidar, Afar region of Ethiopia, and three others are wounded.

Social media sources say it is confirmed that two of those killed are brothers and a pregnant woman is also among the victims. A child wounded in the attack is in hospital and getting medical attention. It is unclear if the injury is life-threatening.

The attack was reportedly carried out on Friday targeting pastoralist communities along the Ethiopia-Djibouti border but inside Ethiopia.

“Inside Africa” report published on social media linked the attack to the Djibouti government.

The source wrote “Djibouti claims it was targeting an armed group posing a security threat, but the strike instead killed unarmed civilians, raising serious questions about Djibouti’s blatant violation of Ethiopia’s sovereignty and its reckless military actions against innocent Afar communities.”

Tesfa News, an Eritrean news source, has linked the drone attack to Djibouti’s government.

The Afar regional state did not remark about the tragic incident at the time of this writing. Ethiopia’s Federal government Ministry of Communication services or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not remarked about the incident at the time of this writing.

The government of Djibouti did not remark about it either.  Borkena was unable to independently verify the story or confirm it from other sources.
