Toronto – There has been circulating information about ongoing negotiation between one group of Fano and the Ethiopian government. However, there was no definitive evidence as to which group of Fano was doing so.
The latest report in that regard is from Meseret media. It reported that one wing of Fano has agreed to negotiate with the government if it takes place either in North America or Europe. Eskinder Nega, whose organization – Amhara Fano Popular Organization (AFPO) – was linked to the negotiation dismissed it as “fake news.”
Anchor media had a 22 minutes of revealing interview with Fano Geta Asrade, head of political affairs of AFPF. He dismissed that there was no negotiation with the government.
He stated that there was contact with international organizations. The Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) and the African Union were mentioned in name. Representatives to the areas in Shoa that are under the control of AFDF. It is unclear if the Federal government arranged access to the group until they enter the area the rebels control. Fano Geta did not remark on that. ” I can not say this or that in connection with their [arrangement] with the government.
What he confirmed is that his organization made a security arrangement to protect them once they enter the areas that are under their control.
Fano Geta was asked two key questions. One was how he describes the ongoing engagement as “negotiation,” “discussion” or “talk”? It appears that the engagement is seen as a diplomatic engagement to explain the movement, why it is in armed struggle and the war crimes that the Amhara people have been enduring.
“They [AU and IGAD] have been expressing interest in evaluating and observing Fano’s struggle since over two months ago – especially the Amhara Fano Popular Front,” Geta said. Why this particular Fano organization? Geta relate to “its organizational stature,” and due to its influence in the region.
Geta said that his organization explained to international organizations “why we entered the struggle and what we seek to achieve, rights abuse and war crimes Amhara people experienced. ” He added that they are briefed that the Fano struggle is based on principle, discipline and humanity.
The other question he was asked was why the engagement (Journalist Messay used the word negotiation) became a priority when the unity of Fano was not realized. Fano Geta reiterated that the engagement with the international organization was not negotiation.
On the question of why uniting with other Fano forces became difficult, Geta responded that “there are divergent entities with divergent interest within the Fano movement.”

If Ethiopian government is intent on cheating ,then the road is war .But in every rebel movement there two divergent points of view on truce, peace or plain takes to distract attention and rearming follows suit.
I have seen a bit and understanding how you denied the reality.
1. UA and IGAD, leading by Cornel Oromo and dr. Workoneh Gebeyehu, those are Oromo reportinv to PM. Abiy. So, why, you denied how you said that do not negotiation with Government ?
In my opinion, all of you dead in politics, never again cheats Amhara people.
