Toronto – There have been reports that government forces deployed in the Amhara region had been deserting to rebel forces. Today, Ethiopia Media Services (EMS) published video footage purportedly showing government forces who have joined the Fano forces. The soldiers are seen in defense force uniforms and carrying an AK-47 with a distinct appearance which is said to be mostly owned by government soldiers.
The Ethiopian Defense Force was vowing to complete the mission in the Amhara region of Ethiopia by the end of December 2024 and leave the region. The mission was not accomplished as there are still reports of continued fighting in many parts of the Amhara region. Also, the Fano forces still control a considerably huge area in the region.
In a span of six months, three senior Defense Force Commanders remarked that the army is exhausted as it has been on a mission since the war between the TPLF-led government and Abiy Ahmed-led Federal government in November 2020, which ended in November 2022.
