When Abiy came to power in April 2018, he was the weakest in the region, meaning TPLF had more military power than him. Eritrea also has more power than him. Abiy also sees Amhara as a threat to his dictatorship. Abiy saw both Eritrea and TPLF as a threat. He had to get Eritrea, TPLF, and Amhara to fight each other to weaken them. But how?

The device he planned leverages his only expertise, espionage. Through counterintelligence, Abiy ensured that Abiy personnel fed TPLF intelligence officers that the EDF planned to launch an attack.

Abiy was part of the Army Signals Corps of the Ethiopian Army from 1991 – 2010. Spying-related activities are natural to him. Being Director of INSA from 2008 to 2015 taught him who TPLF intelligence officers were and how to feed them false information. The TPLF intelligence officers did not recognize the false information and passed it on to the TPLF central committee.

At the same time, Abiy told Eritrea that the TPLF would attack soon and be ready. Abiy said the same thing to Amhara. That was why Fano prepared before the November 3rd preemptive TDF attack. Abiy could draw TPLF into a preemptive attack using this method, which also pulled in Eritrea. Abiy hoped to weaken Eritrea, TPLF, and Amhara at the same time.

A significant collaborator in Abiy’s evil plan was Temesgen Tiruneh, who was with Abiy in the Intelligence Corps and director of INSA when Abiy was conducting his evil scheme starting in April 2018.

Abiy has made Temesgen his deputy to keep him close to him so that Temesgen would not reveal the secret. Temesgen is controlled. His communications are all monitored. Temesgen is a liability because of the information he knows about the evil scheme of starting a war that killed a million people. Abiy architected the TDF vs EDF war to stay in power.

Abiy’s plan has backfired. Eritrea is as strong as ever, TPLF is making a comeback, and the Amhara nation has become a strong warrior.

  1. Wow, everything makes sense now. EPLF had accused Abiy of exposing Eritrean soldiers to an attack by TDF during the Tigray war by withdrawing from a strategic location without coordinating with them. This is well documented. Now, it makes sense, knowing that Abiy’s plan all along was to try and weaken Eritrea and Tigrai at the same time. The article also shades light on the reason why we have seen Abiy shift alliances on a dime. As soon as Pretoria was signed, he started being antagonistic to Eritrea. All what he was doing, appearing to be friendly was superficial and is not from the heart. That is why he is able to change so quickly. There were also Fano interviews where the guests indicated that Fano was prepared before the preemptive attack, now, it all makes sense.
