Toronto – Fano forces operating in North Gondar, Ethiopia, claim to have successfully repelled a government offensive aimed at retaking the corridor to the Sudanese border.

Citing sources from the area, Anchor Media reported intense fighting in and around Quara—the hometown of the 19th-century Ethiopian Emperor Tewodros II—for several days.

Sources added that the Ethiopian Defense Force mobilized reinforcements from other locations and deployed them to North Gondar, where heavy clashes occurred. However, the reinforcements reportedly failed to alter the outcome.

The Defense Force is said to be facing setbacks in other parts of the Amhara region as well, suffering defeats in East and West Gojjam. Casualty figures remain unspecified.

In Dembecha, Gojjam, government forces attempted to seize control of Gelila town but were reportedly defeated and forced to retreat by Fano forces. Social media has circulated video footage of Fano’s commando forces over the past three days. Fano forces in Gojjam anticipate a major confrontation with the Defense Force.

In Shoa, Fano forces reported clashes near Ataye, close to where the Defense Force conducted a drone strike on residential areas two days ago. The attack killed four civilians, including a mother and son.

The Ethiopian Defense Force has not commented on these reports. However, state media quoted Lieutenant General Shuma Abedeta, head of the Commando Forces, claiming significant losses inflicted on Fano forces. “The extremist force is no longer in a position to stand its ground and fight,” he stated.
