Toronto – Intense fighting has reportedly been ongoing in the Metema and Armachiho areas of the Amhara region between Fano forces and Ethiopian government forces. The clashes have persisted for six consecutive days, according to local news sources.

Additionally, there have been reports of a drone aerial survey conducted in the North Gondar area of the Amhara region.

The latest fighting was reported in the Kurkumorme locality of Metema and the Armachiho area, according to Ethio News. It remains unspecified whether there have been any casualties.

Shewa

In Shewa, Ethiopian Media Service (EMS) reported on Saturday that intense fighting had erupted in Ankober, located less than 100 kilometers from the capital, Addis Ababa. Fano forces are reportedly attempting to take control of the town, which was once the seat of Emperor Menelik.

Abdella Endris, the head of public relations for the Shewa Fano Command, told EMS that the fighting had been ongoing for several hours at the time of the phone interview. Details on casualties were not provided.

Ethio News, another local news outlet, reported that Fano forces were close to gaining control of Ankober. The source also mentioned another major battle in the Merabete direction, located in north Shewa.

In addition, Kewot district and rural areas in the Shewarobit area have also experienced intense fighting, though the outcome remains unspecified.

Gojjam

Reports indicate that fighting continues in several parts of the Gojjam area, with increasing desertion of government forces in the region. Meanwhile, there are reports that students from Abinet, who are studying Ethiopian Orthodox Church theology, have been targeted by government forces.

In a related development, Fano forces claimed to have shot down a fighter helicopter at Belay Zeleke Airport in Bahir Dar. The Ethiopian government has not denied the incident, and flights to and from Bahir Dar Airport have reportedly been suspended.
