The MasterCard Foundation has now opened a branch office in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, reported Addis Fortune. It came after an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and the MasterCard Foundation.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Markos Tekle, and Alemayehu Konde who is MasterCard Foundation country representative in Ethiopia signed the agreement on September 6, 2019 – according to Addis Fortune’s report.
The Ethiopian government sees the opening of MasterCard Foundation for the development of the country. Markos Tekele is quoted as saying “The opening of the office will contribute its share for the achievement of the plan set by the Ethiopian government to empower women and youth.”
MasterCard Foundation representative in Ethiopia on his part said: “Ethiopia is one of the ten strategic nations selected by the Foundation for financial and technical support in the areas of agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and other sector.”
The foundation says it will give more employment opportunities for women.
MasterCard Foundation was established in 2006 and operates in three African countries – Kenya, Rwanda, and Ghana.
