Toronto – Continued fighting between Fano forces and the Ethiopian Defense force is reported in many parts of Ethiopia.

Ethiopian Media Service (EMS) cited Fano Abdella Endris, public relation of Amhara Shewa Fano Command, to report that the forces have transformed their defensive engagement to an offensive one.

Over the past three days, there have been fighting in several locations near Debre Berhan town, which is only 120 kilometers North of  the capital Addis Ababa. It is along the Addis Ababa-Mekelle road.

The Fanos are claiming to have caused significant damage on government forces but the number of casualties are unspecified. The military engagement was both conventional and ambush attacks.

There were efforts , according to sources, on the part of government forces to send reinforcement to the Fano stronghold areas of operation but the fano claim to have thwarted it  when they ambushed the forces that were on its way to the Debre Berhan area.

Further North in Wollo, according to other local news sources.  Wollo and Gondar Fano launched a joint attack near Waghmra zone, and took control of a strategic location in Waghumra.  The government is said to have suffered heavy casualties in the battle but again the numbers are unspecified.

In Gojjam, there was intense fighting since yesterday near Debre Elias. Government forces have reportedly deployed mechanized units. However, they were unable to reverse the attack from Fano forces.

The Semada area of South Gondar has also experienced fighting between Fano forces and government forces. Government’s operation in the area has seen severe military setbacks.

On the other hand, the government has been claiming that it has weakened Fano forces.  Ethiopian Defense Force had plans to decisively defeat Fano forces by the end of December 2024. It did not happen. Credible sources indicate that Fano forces are still in control of over 85 percent of the Amhara region.
