- TPLF was not founded on ideology or political principles. Yes, TPLFites pledged to the trendy Marxist-Leninist communist ideology of the era, thereby using it as a weapon to eliminate their political rivals, and emerge as the last group standing. But they never adhered to communist values.
- Had they been true communists, kinsmanship or place of birth wouldn’t have been a factor to them. Yet, right from the start, they were the worst kind of narrow-minded bunch whose loyalty was to their close-knit clan.
- If the kinsmanship had to be stretched, it was always northbound entailing TPLF’s unwavering allegiance to Eritrea and thankless servitude to Shabia.
- They claim that TPLF is a party “of the people, by the people, for the people”, hence their overemphasis on “ህዝብና” / our people in every public gathering, the media, music, art and literature. However, in reality, they could care less about the people’s suffering be it due to natural disasters or man made adversities as currently being witnessed all over Tigrai.
- TPLFites have always tried to depict themselves as pro-farmers. Yet, they have worse record than that of the “መስፍናውያን” / feudalists they condemned for leaving farmers landless and impoverished.
- They do everything at their disposal to control individual rights and thoughts. To that end, there are no sacred cows – be it religious, civic society, community, family or marriage institutions – they wouldn’t exploit.
- Controlling the monopoly of power and exercising illegitimate violence, TPLF has used the imprisonment, torture and killing of political opponents as its modes operand since its inception.
- TPLFites often use terms such as reform, change and development, while their party is the biggest impediment to change. As a case in point, at an old age of 90-years, TPLF’s godfather, Sebhat Negga, is appallingly calling the shots from across the Atlantic and his deathbed in the U.S.
- For TPLF leaders, Tigrai is their privately owned property and the people of Tigrai their tenant. That’s why they find it impossible to relinquish power. Instead, they ironically feel that opponents are trying to wrestle away what purportedly belongs to the party and its partners in crime.
- TPLFites don’t believe in give and take, but rather in a winner-takes-all through extreme violence or war if need be. That is why they “fiddle while [Tigrai] burns”.
- Never mind from the distant, they never learn from their recent past. For instance, the movement that ousted them from 27-year federal power didn’t come as a sudden political storm. But rather through gradual discontent and small protests TPLF leaders arrogantly ignored for years. Yet, they continue to play a sequel of that in Tigrai.
- Through decades of propaganda, brainwashing as well as monetary and non-monetary rewards, TPLF has created partisan followers in the army, the media, the business sector, academia and across various communities who have sold their souls by still taking orders from the old guard thereby prolonging the suffering of the people of Tigrai.
Thus, it’d be naïve to assume that TPLF leaders and their accomplices – who essentially acted with no regard for human lives for five decades – would ever change. So, the onus is on the people of Tigrai, particularly the young, to bring an end to the sad saga of TPLF rule once and for all.
