Toronto – In what appears to be a response to growing pressure to unite under a single structure, Fano forces seem to be moving rapidly on the path to Unit.
Three Fano forces in Wollo have announced a merger after signing what they called the Metro agreement. It is named after the place where it was signed in North Wollo, Amhara region of Ethiopia.
It came a day after two major Fano forces in Gondar announced a merger under a single force as “Fano Amhara Unity In Gondar.”
In Wollo, Fano forces under Miheret Wodajo ( also known as Mere Wodajo), Fano forces under Dirsane Birhane and Fano forces under Yosef Asmare came to unite as single forces. It is now named Amhara Fano In Wollo or Bete Amhara.
Local Ethiopian news sources with links to the area say the force is composed of 26 units.
Fano Mihret Wojajo was commanding 17 divisions, Dirsane Birhane was commanding 8 divisions and Yosef Asmare was commanding one special commando force. All the units are now under a single structure.
The group made a call for other Fano units to join them. There is still another significant Fano force in Wollo under the command of Colonel Fantahun Muhabaw. There seems to be optimism that he would join the merger with his forces.
A merger project is also underway in the Shewa area of the Amhara region.
The Ethiopian Defense Force has been making claims in recent weeks that it has weakened the Fano force – and there have been similar claims for more than a year now.
Meanwhile, there were reports of continued fighting between Fano forces and the Defense force in many areas of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
