Toronto – Abiy Ahmed’s administration has reportedly organized a rally in the capital Addis Ababa. It is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
Sources indicate the rally is organized through the ruling party structures at the sub city level but the rally will be at the Addis Ababa Stadium. The party claims to have 15.7 million supporters across the country.
Ethnic Tigreans living in the capital Addis Ababa are reportedly under pressure from the government to join the rally and “oppose war.”
At the time of this writing, protestors have already arrived at Addis Ababa Stadium chanting anti-war slogans.
Why is the rally organized?
Ethiopian Media Services cited EMS as saying that it is organized to denounce the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) faction under Debretsion Gebremichael which is reportedly starting war again.
The other faction, under Getachew Reda who is president of the Interim administration, works with the Federal government within the framework of the Pretoria Agreement which ended the two years bloody war between the TPLF led Tigray regional administration and Abiy Ahmed’s administration. He has been advancing an anti-war stance which appears to have got support from a considerable section of the population in the region.
The Debretsion faction has reportedly assessed the political, economic and security situation in Ethiopia. It is reported that the group sees the time is right to start war as Abiy Ahmed’s government is in an economic, political and security crisis. Two wars are underway in the Amhara and Oromia regions of Ethiopia.
The group has also assessed that Abiy Ahmed’s relation with Eritrea is hostile. There are multiple reports that his group has already created a military alliance with the Eritrean government ; some even report that the Eritrean government has provided a military training ground in the Senafe area.
The motive behind TPLF’ war is unclear. Among other things, the group has an irredentist claim over Wolkait and Raya – areas that were not part of Tigray before 1991.
Two days ago, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed conveyed a written message on his social media particularly addressed to people in the Tigray region of Ethiopia and the political elites in the region to resolve differences – within the region and with the federal government – through peaceful means.
Political analysts and activists – who are seemingly in the opposition quarter – tend to think that war is inevitable. Debretsion’s group has moved what it calls Army 22 to the Raya area – which is another clear sign that war is inevitable.
It remains to be seen whether the TPLF has plans to march to Addis Ababa or restrict itself to Raya area.

The Tigray nation is against any foreigen interference iin its internal affairs and should warn the government of Abiy Ahmed any such action. The TDF is on alert and will take all the necessary actions against all the enemies of Tigray. Now the Biden adminsitration that pressurized the TDF to halt its counter offensive in 2022 ans withdrraw is not in the white house and Abiy Ahmed can not survive TDF onslaught. No more Eritrean and Amhara forces to defend him. The regional power Tigray will remove him from power if he refuses to implement the Pretoria agreement.
You seem to be a dream-walker. Tigray has never been a nation. It still is and will ever remain a small part of a nation, Ethiopia.

Prefer for Fano to take down Abiy but if TPLF is able then so be it. Abiy must go away!
