Toronto – Bahir Dar University has launched a fundraising campaign to support the family of Surgeon Andualem Dagne who was shot dead on Saturday in Bahir Dar, seat of the Amhara regional state (read the story here).
A letter that appears to be from Bahir Dar University Secretary in the Office of the President, Aragaw Bizualem Kassie, indicated that the proceeds will go to supporting the family and also on memorial projects to commemorate him.
A Bank account is opened in the name of three medical doctors who were also colleagues of the late Andualem Dange at Bahir Dar University Hospital : Dr. Hailemariam Awoke, Dr. Amsalu Worku and Dr. Mekuanent Yimer.
The government has not yet released any new information regarding the killing. Three days ago, the government claimed “unidentified gunmen” carried out the killing.
However, many tend to believe that the government itself is behind the killing. There have been allegations that the government has organized armed groups with the intention to tarnish the image of Fano forces in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
Dr. Andualem Dagne is survived by his wife and two children.
